Did You Know?

A 2005 report by the Rand Corporation about the visual arts argues that the intrinsic pleasures and stimulation of the art experience do more than sweeten an individual's life -- according to the report, they "can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing," creating the foundation to forge social bonds and community cohesion.

On June 30, 2011 our school lost one of our own. It is with great sorrow that we report the Death Amanda Noel Leady.

Amanda was a graduate of the Genoa-Kingston High School's Class of 2010. She excelled in school, especially theater and music. She was a member of the International Thespian Society, the drama club, chamber choir, marching band and many other school activities.

Amanda was cast in a variety of plays, including "Grease," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Months on End." She had a beautiful singing voice, played the bass clarinet – along with various other musical instruments – and felt extremely comfortable acting on stage.

Amanda was truly loved and will be truly missed by her friends and family

I would like to thank the Lisa and Eric Leady for their permission to do this for Amanda. The strength you two show everyone daily amazes me.

Thank you so much for doing this. It means a lot to Eric and myself that people are not letting Amanda be forgotten. It looks beautiful! ......Thank you again Lisa.

I was the first kid to say hi to Amanda when she first moved to Genoa. Amanda was i great friend. she could always make you laugh when you were about to cry. Amanda always said hi when she saw me outside or in the hallways at school. Amanda and I thought it was so cool we had the same name and my Aunt and her mom had the same name. I miss her so much. She was a friend to everyone!  .......Amanda Pope

Amanda and I spent all four years in high school together taking advantage of all the programs the fine arts had to offer. We spent time on and off the stage, the football field, and the choir room. Amanda had such a passion for music and life and it affected everyone around her.  The stage, and the world, was a better place with her in it. I will miss her laughter and her talent, but especially her beautiful personality. I am proud to say that I was, and still am, a friend of Amanda Leady. She made my high school experience that much better. I send all the love and support to her and her family.   …..Chloe Vassmer, Music Education, Sigma Pi Delta, Augustana Choir

Amanda Leady was and is one of the best friends I'll ever have. In 7th grade, I started playing the bass clarinet in band; and even though she didn't know me at all, she invited me over to her house to practice anytime. I was struck by this stranger's kindness. A few years later, in high school, she was the opposite of a stranger. She became a friend, a sister, a kindred spirit, and an inspiration to us all. I'll miss the sleepovers we had at her house, the rants and tangents we would go off on, and most of all- her laugh. Her theatrical and musical talent will shine upon everyone who is involved in the fine arts departments at GK. Gone, but not soon forgotten.    ..........Elizabeth Anne Whittenhall
